John McNaughton
Furniture Designer/Builder
I feel that our environment has a profound effect upon our souls.
The beauty of our surroundings inspires us to live more fully and
appreciate the inner harmony of our world. Furniture that is beautifully
made allows us to relax, while being enlivened, in our home and work spaces.
I am inspired, in designing furniture, by the influences of ancient
architecture as well as the more modern Arts and Crafts movement.
I strive to bring the best elements of the ancient and the modern into a
fresh, contemporary expression of design.
In creating furniture, I use fine hardwoods such as quarter sawn white
oak, white maple and cherry wood, as well as the more exotic hardwoods
such as babinga, ebony and German pear wood. It is essential in building
fine furniture to pay attention to grain and color, selecting the wood
that best serves the design.
I work with customers to clarify design ideas and select the best woods
to complement their surroundings. Using modern tools and woodworking
machines, and the craftsmanship born of three decades of experience, I
shape and form these woods into finished pieces of furniture that
enhance any environment.
